Trailer Coverage
Posted on December 06, 2010

Often times we are asked if trailers pulled by insured autos are covered.
Here's how it works:
If you own the trailer and want more than liability coverage, then you must purchase comprehensive and collision coverage on your auto policy in order to insure it from damages that it may sustain.
Should you lend your trailer to a friend, your friend's liability insurance should provide primary coverage. But your liability insurance on your policy could also extend to your owned trailer while they are using it with their car.
This does not always apply if the trailer is used for commercial purposes. Always check with your insurance agent to verify coverage before use.
